Olly Stone broke his own recently-set record for his best Nottinghamshire bowling figures as he led the Green and Golds to a 54-run win over Hampshire at Trent Bridge.

Stone completed his third five-wicket haul in four matches, returning figures of 6/28 - usurping the 6/44 he claimed against Surrey at the Kia Oval three weeks ago - as the visitors were bowled out for 123.

After Stone had quickly ripped through three of the four Hampshire wickets that were left on the final morning, Fraser Sheat was then the architect of the winning scalp shortly after 12:30.

Resuming on 61-6, it took Stone just 15 deliveries before he claimed the key wicket of Ben Mayes, caught behind superbly by Mitchell Hay, diving at full stretch low to his left, for 25.

Just two balls later, Stone then completed his five-fer as Hay again snaffled a chance - this one more regulation by comparison - to see off Eddie Jack for a two-ball duck as part of a double-wicket maiden.

That left Hampshire reeling at 68-8, and in his very next over, Stone made it six as Kyle Abbott was pinned lbw by a straight yorker for just one.

Last-wicket pair Scott Currie and Manny Lumsden did combine for 43 over the ensuing hour-and-a-half to frustrate the victory charge, necessitating the use of the extra half-hour before lunch.

However, the hosts required only seven minutes of those 30, as Lumsden eventually loosely drove Sheat to Ben Martindale at point while on 21, with the substitute fielder taking a fine diving catch.

The victory handed Notts a priceless 22 points, hoisting them back up to second in Division One, where they now sit just four points behind Somerset and one ahead of Warwickshire, with two games to go.
