Seam bowler James Hayes has agreed to sign for Gloucestershire on a permanent basis, bringing his five-year stay at Trent Bridge to an end.

Hayes, 25, first signed for Nottinghamshire on an 18-month basis midway through the 2021 season after impressing on trial, and went on to make his first-team debut in August 2022.

He will move to the Seat Unique Stadium on a two-year deal, having already spent two spells on loan with his new side during the current season.

In all, he has claimed 25 wickets in 17 Metro Bank One Day Cup appearances for Notts Outlaws, including 12 during a run to the last four in this summer’s competition.

In May, Hayes made his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire during a Rothesay County Championship trip to Leicestershire after coming in as an injury substitute for Brett Hutton.

“I’m truly grateful to Nottinghamshire for seeing something in me and giving me my opportunity by signing me as a 19-year-old,” said Hayes.

“I’ve loved my time here and I thank everyone for their support and encouragement. Trent Bridge will always hold a special place in my heart.”

“Leaving Trent Bridge was a really tough decision to make, but I am excited to build on everything the coaching staff have given me.

“I’m especially grateful for the time and energy they have all put into me over the years,  and I’ve learned so much working with them that I’ll take into the next chapter of my career.

“I’d like to say thank you to every Nottinghamshire member and supporter for their backing during the five years I’ve been here. I wish the club all the best as I head down to Bristol.”
