Half-centuries from Freddie McCann and Sam Seecharan were enough to see Nottinghamshire 2nd XI to a three-wicket win over Kent in a 50-over friendly at Polo Farm in Canterbury.

Captain McCann top-scored with 89 off 94 balls and shared in a 128-run opening stand with Seecharan, who contributed 75, as the visitors chased down the hosts’ 270 all out in 47.5 overs.

Benny Howell also made an important 28 not out, including the winning four, as Harry Finch’s 103 turned out to be in vain for the hosts, who were bowled out in the final over of their innings.

Finch was dismissed by Tom Giles, who returned 2/56, but it was left-arm seamer Ben Fletcher, who claimed 3/39 from nine overs, who led the Notts attack.

The effort to bowl Kent out was a sterling one from the Outlaws, with the hosts standing at 210-3 in the 40th over, only to lose their next seven wickets for 60 runs in 9.5 overs.

That included losing their last four for just ten, including Giles’ double wicket burst in what turned out to be the final over of the innings.

It helped the eventual target become far more manageable, and once McCann and Seecharan had got the visitors almost halfway without any loss inside 17 overs, it was smooth sailing.

Bertie Foreman claimed 3/51 for Kent, but Howell’s valuable 37-ball knock ticked down the runs until the all-rounder lofted Will Harby to the long-on fence to complete victory.
