Kirstie Gordon has been described as “one of the best in the world” by Scotland head coach Craig Wallace after being named alongside Kathryn and Sarah Bryce in a 15-strong squad for this summer’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Gordon, 28, last represented the nation of her birth in 2017, playing six times for England in the interim, but has returned to a squad led by Kathryn Bryce for the upcoming tournament.

She previously played 60 times for Scotland before opting to pursue a full-time professional career, which at the time necessitated a switch of nationality to England.

Captain Bryce will lead her two Blaze teammates in a group that also includes representation from five other Tier One counties.

It will be the Scots’ second consecutive appearance at an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, with their campaign kicking off against Ireland at Old Trafford on Saturday 13 June.

“Kirstie’s decision to come back home and choose to play for Scotland again shows just how far the team have progressed to,” said Wallace.

“It’s great for our players to have the chance to play with one of the best in the world. We have multiple world-class players in this team, and Kirstie is definitely one of them.”

After the opener against Ireland, Scotland play West Indies and rivals England in back-to-back fixtures at Headingley.

They will then face further group stage matches against New Zealand in Bristol and Sri Lanka back at Old Trafford, before the knockout stages begin on Tuesday 30 June.
