Five Nottinghamshire bowlers shared five wickets evenly as the Green and Golds enjoyed a valuable run-out with the ball on the final day of their first home pre-season friendly with Loughborough UCCE.

Having declared with the 445-7 they had racked up on the first day, before the second was lost to the weather, the hosts fought hard in cold conditions to see Loughborough to 325-5, and effect a draw, at stumps.

Olly Stone, Liam Patterson-White, Lyndon James, Conor McKerr, and Farhan Ahmed all claimed a scalp apiece, in the face of visiting captain Sheridon Gumbs’ 121.

It was Stone who struck first, removing Ben Dawkins for 14 via the maiden first XI catch of young Academy wicketkeeping prospect Toby Lambert.

That did, though, bring Gumbs and Worcestershire’s Rehaan Edavalath together, and between them, they provided a stern test as they added 214 for the third wicket.

Left-hander Gumbs in particular led the way, reaching a 135-ball century, though it was the first ball after tea that finally did for him as Patterson-White uprooted his off stump.

From there, the hosts took back the initiative, as James saw off Edavalath for 89 as Rob Lord snaffled a pull shot at backward square leg, before Aadi Sharma was lbw to McKerr for 20.

Vansh Jani then became the final wicket of the day as he popped up a catch to Dillon Pennington at mid-on off Ahmed to depart for 26.

With the shadows lengthening, the game was then brought to a close shortly after 5:45pm, leaving Henry Rogers unbeaten on 27 for the visitors.
