Notts Outlaws secured their third Vitality Blast game in a row, beating North Group rivals Derbyshire Falcons by 10 runs at Trent Bridge to go second in the North Group.
Half-centuries by George Munsey and Jack Haynes, backed up by 39 off 24 balls by wicketkeeper-batter Tom Moores, helped the home side total 183 for six after being put in, Akif Javed taking two for 31.
It proved too many for Derbyshire Falcons, who could muster only 173 for nine this time, after Olly Stone, who went for 32 in a single over on that occasion, defended 20 off the final over here.
Outlaws pace duo Mohammad Ali (three for 25) and Dillon Pennington (three for 29) did much of the damage, with left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White taking two for 27 as a succession of Falcons batters made starts but failed to kick on.
Earlier, the Outlaws were 59 for one after a powerplay that saw 38 come in the space of two overs as Munsey cleared the boundary four times, twice each off Jack Morley and Ben Aitchison, whose second over went for 22.
Joe Clarke was bowled by Akif Javed for six but the partnership with Munsey was worth 50. Munsey and Haynes added 67 but departed in consecutive overs, Munsey’s 53 from 32 balls ending with a catch at deep backward square. Haynes picked up maximums off Morley and Matthew Montgomery in his 50 off 36 but Morley dismissed him with a sharp return catch.
Moores struck three sixes but Benny Howell perished first ball and George Linde picked out deep extra cover. After Moores holed out to long-on, Freddie McCann’s 12 from five balls left Derbyshire needing 9.2 per over.
They were ahead of that after their batting powerplay but with four wickets down. Pennington bowled Martin Andersson for a duck before Ali produced a burst of three wickets in five balls across two overs to remove three of the Falcons’ chief threats.
He had Aneurin Donald caught behind for 20 off nine, induced Caleb Jewell to send one vertical for 25 off 13, and added Montgomery via a well-judged boundary catch by Haynes. Derbyshire still had time on their side but the loss of big hitter Ross Whiteley for 24 from 17 left them 92 for five after 10, with Amrit Basra soon following him off.
Patterson-White had Wayne Madsen caught off another miscued sweep to claim a second wicket before Nick Potts, having cleared the ropes twice, was caught by Pennington off his own bowling for 19 off 12.
A good catch by McCann on the legside boundary accounted for Javed and though 20 needed off the last over was not impossible, coming down to 12 from four balls after Aitchison picked up his third six, Stone finished the over superbly.
