Emma Jones is targeting a return to winning ways when The Blaze return to Vitality Blast action against Warwickshire Bears at Trent Bridge on Friday (2:30pm start).

"We had a less-than-ideal game the other day, but it's a different group than the one we're used to," said Jones.

"I think, like the Yorkshire game in the 50-over competition, it will give us a kick to go on and keep winning."

Jones is included in a 14-strong squad that is bolstered by the re-addition of in-form seamer Charley Phillips, recovered from a minor injury that kept her out of the Durham game.

Defeat to Durham, The Blaze’s first of this summer’s Blast, came during a period of adaptation, with the T20 World Cup-enforced absence of Kathryn and Sarah Bryce and Kirstie Gordon.

Jones feels the experience of needing to adjust to being without key players has already provided valuable lessons.

"It's a bit of adjusting to new roles and to new situations, which takes a little bit of time," she explained.

"We always review games, and it's given people really clear things that they want to work on, and how we want to go about things as a group."

The all-rounder also highlighted the importance of adaptability as The Blaze continue to navigate changes to their squad.

"All the best teams definitely need to be able to adapt," said Jones.

"You're going to have stuff thrown at you, and you're almost never going to be in your absolutely ideal situation, so it's all about adapting as best you can."

Jones herself arrives in confident mood after contributing with both bat and ball against Durham, claiming her first wickets for The Blaze.

However, her focus remains firmly on helping the side secure victories.

"It was good to get my first couple of Blaze wickets," she said. "It was obviously nice to be able to put in a performance with both skills, but to me, it matters a lot more when you end up on the right side of the result.

"So yes, I'm happy with how I've done, but I'm thinking, 'how can I be even more clinical and get us on the right side of the result?'"

Friday's fixture will also see stand-in captain Marie Kelly continue to lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Gordon.

Jones believes Kelly is growing into the role and has all the qualities needed to succeed.

"They're very different people, but both great leaders in their own right," explained Jones. "It was always going to take a couple of games for Marie to warm into it.

“She's been put under pressure with the circumstances, but she's a great human. She's so smart about the game, and as she figures it out, she'll absolutely thrive."

The Blaze could also continue to call upon some of the younger players who have stepped up in recent weeks, including academy graduate Maria Andrews, who made her senior debut against Durham.

"She's a great human being and a very skilful cricketer," said Jones. "It was really cool to see her make her debut.

“She got thrown in a bit at the deep end when Durham were going pretty hard, but she just took it in her stride and went straight out there. She's going to be a very good cricketer."

Despite defeating the Bears in their previous meeting just eight days prior to this one, Jones insists there will be no danger of complacency.

"We know they're not one to underestimate," she said. "It wasn't a perfect game for us, and we have to make sure we're doing the things that we want to do well.

"We'll be taking learnings from that, and we'll be trying to be really clinical and do it even better this time."
