Ahead of The Hundred 2026 final, Trent Rockets have teamed up with women's cricket charity Take Her Lead to host their "Rookie for a Day" experience, giving a young female player the opportunity to learn from the best, with behind-the-scenes access to one of the world's biggest cricket tournaments.
Bedford CC's budding all-rounder Avaani Ketechia joined Trent Rockets’ stars at Trent Bridge to experience life as a professional cricketer for a day, as part of Take Her Lead's campaign to empower, amplify and connect women and girls through cricket.
Welcomed by players and coaching staff, Avaani was given a tour of the stadium and facilities before joining the squad for their warmup and strength and conditioning (S&C) sessions.
She then shadowed some of her role models, taking part in a bowling skills session, complete with 1-1 coaching to hone her skills and provide key insights she can bring to her own game.
Avaani also got a front row seat to the players’ full training session, watching how they prepare for the intense Hundred competition up close.
She got the chance to observe how they get the best out of their batting and bowling drills, with explanations from players on what she should be looking out for throughout.
On top of this, she took part in the team’s fielding drills, experiencing what it’s like to take part in a professional level fielding session.
Avaani will take these tips back to the youngsters she helps develop as a coaching assistant for Bedford CC's Dynamos, Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s sides.
Her love of the game was first sparked at a local social match with her grandad, since then, she’s gone from strength to strength, playing for Cricket East throughout the age group pathway.
A prolific run scorer at club and county level, Avaani's dedication to the game and to her club shines both on and off the pitch, having raised £300+ for local cricket initiatives.
