Sam Billings hailed Ben Duckett’s impact with the bat and in the field as Trent Rockets Men beat SunRisers Leeds to consolidate top spot in The Hundred Men’s table.

Duckett took a stunning catch to remove Harry Brook and turn the match in the Rockets’ favour, after hitting a half-century to become the competition’s all-time leading run-scorer.

“Sometimes people feel that fielding is over-egged in this format of the game, but it can be the difference as today showed,” he said.

“Harry Brook is one of the best players in the world, and it was a moment of magic that was the difference there.

“And the way Ben plays with the bat shows that you can value batsmanship in this format.

“The way him and Finn [Allen] work together is brilliant, and Nye [Donald] came in and had a blistering knock as well. It feels like Ben has got the perfect partners.”

Mohammad Amir’s bowling at the end of the SunRisers’ innings was also key to securing a five-run win, and Billings felt the former Pakistan international’s impact was crucial.

“Mohammad Amir showed his class with a game changing set,” he said.

“It’s small margins in games like this that change things, so that result is really pleasing.

“With the ball, a set of ten balls either way can decide the game, you have to be right on it from the start to the end.”

The Rockets were roared on by a near-capacity crowd of over 14,500, and Billings feels the energy from the stands is playing a key part in his side’s success.

“I love this place,” he said.

“It’s a brilliant ground with the way the crowd feel close to you, and you can really feed off their energy out there.”
